Turkey is moving rapidly towards achieving its goals for 2023 as part of a comprehensive development plan to expand industrial growth that focuses on improving human capital. The plan was presented on February 21, 2018, at a ceremony held at the Presidency Complex in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ben Ali Yildirim. The plan covered four years from 2019 to 2023, and participated in the preparation of 43 specialized committees, working groups and more than 3,500 experts. To date, a total of 27,500 individuals have been covered in the development of the comprehensive plan.
The plan aims to guarantee gross domestic product of $ 2 trillion, i.e. a percentage increase of 39%, and increase per capita income to $ 25,000, equivalent to an increase of “44%,” and achieve $ 500 billion in exports, equivalent to an increase of “33”%, and a decrease in unemployment to 5 percent, and reduce inflation to a permanent one-digit number.
At the opening ceremony, President Erdogan spoke about the development journey in Turkey since 2002, and highlighted the country's vision for 2023, saying it is the most concrete example of planned development. “We have set the goal to become one of the top 10 global economies by 2023,” he said.
Erdogan said that while Turkey will continue its diversified economic program with a focus on digital transformation and technology-intensive industrial production, it will also continue to implement renewable energy projects to meet the needs of industry and growing population growth.
Erdogan stressed that the government does not limit development to make it at the level of the economic sphere, but it is also concerned with social and spiritual development, and believes that Turkey has succeeded in developing the approach to development within a framework focused on the human being.
Until the plan is implemented, Turkey will be among the 10 most powerful economies in the world, and this is what we see today on the ground in Turkey after the opening of the third Istanbul Airport, which is one of the largest and most important airports in the world, and the largest medical city in Ankara, and the Chamlica Tower, which is one of the tallest towers in Europe and many government projects are under implementation now.
